Riello UPS Provides Range Of Lithium-Ion Battery Solutions To Protect & Optimize Your Data Centers

Data centers are one of a company’s most important assets, serving as a foundation around which the entire organization is built. (Riello UPS)

This is why it’s critical to make sure these systems are both functional and dependable, starting with the system’s electrical arrangement and adhering to strict quality standards.

Riello Power India, a leading provider of uninterruptible power supplies in India, is now offering specialized lithium-ion battery options over a large range of its best-selling product line.

The move allows data centers and other mission-critical facilities to benefit from lithium-ion (li-ion) cells’ many advantages while simultaneously encouraging them to participate in the current energy transformation.

Much of Riello’s UPS product line, including the award-winning modular UPS Multi Power, super-efficient NextEnergy, and high-performing Master series, now has lithium-ion battery options.

The new solutions include a sophisticated Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors and manages each individual cell using electrical circuits to maintain balanced states of charge, as well as a wide range of runtime options (short, medium, and long autonomy). Lithium-ion cells provide far better power to weight ratio and far higher power density than the sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries commonly used in UPS systems, allowing them to deliver the same

power in a 50-75 percent smaller footprint and weight. They also have a 50-fold increase in cycle life and a considerably faster recharge/discharge time.

Furthermore, Li-ion batteries have a higher temperature tolerance, allowing them to run safely in temperatures as high as 40oC, as opposed to the suggested 20-25oC for SLA batteries. This can help save money on air conditioning and possibly eliminate the need for a separate battery room.

While lithium-ion batteries have a lifespan of 15-20 years, SLA cells will most likely need to be replaced twice or three times in that time. Over the course of a decade, this corresponds to a 10-40% reduction in the total cost of ownership (TCO).

Lithium-ion solutions are quickly becoming a more viable option in a number of contexts, thanks to their long lifespan, small footprint, higher temperature tolerance, and real-time monitoring for increased reliability.

They also turn a UPS from a merely reactive machine waiting to deliver emergency power in the event of a power loss into a dynamic device that can help balance the energy grid in real-time via peak shaving and processes like frequency response.

They’re also a perfect choice for storing energy generated from renewable sources like wind turbines or solar panels because of their quick charge/discharge and a high number of cycles.

Leading manufacturer of uninterruptible power supplies Riello UPS is introducing dedicated lithium-ion battery solutions across much of its best-selling range.

The move enables data centers and other mission-critical sites to capitalize on the many advantages of lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells whilst also encouraging them to play a role in the ongoing energy transition.

Lithium-ion battery versions are now available across much of the Riello UPS product range, including its award-winning modular UPS Multi Power, super-efficient NextEnergy, and high-performing Master series.

The new solutions incorporate a wide range of runtime options (short, medium, and long autonomy) along with a sophisticated Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors and controls each individual cell using electronic circuits to maintain balanced states of charge.

Compared to the sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries typically used in UPS systems, lithium-ion cells have a much better power-to-weight ratio and far higher power density, meaning they can deliver the same power in 50-75% less footprint and weight. They also have a much quicker recharge/discharge time and offer around 50 times the cycle life.

In addition, Li-ion batteries have a better tolerance to higher temperatures, meaning they can safely operate in environments up to 40oC compared to the recommended 20-25oC for SLA. This can significantly reduce expensive air conditioning or even eliminate the need for a standalone battery room.

While Li-ion batteries have a lifespan of 15-20 years, SLA cells would probably need replacing two or three times during the same period. This equates to total cost of ownership (TCO) savings of between 10-40% over the course of a decade.

With their combination of long lifespan, reduced footprint, higher temperature tolerance, and real-time monitoring for enhanced reliability, lithium-ion solutions are fast becoming an increasingly viable option across a variety of settings.

They also transform a UPS from a purely reactive machine waiting to provide emergency power when there’s an outage into a dynamic device that can help balance the electricity grid in real-time through peak shaving and mechanisms like frequency response.

Their rapid charge/discharge and a high number of cycles also make them an ideal solution for storing energy generated from renewable sources such as wind turbines or solar panels.

  • Healthcare Facilities (for example hospitals and health centers);
  • Real Estate & Building infrastructures (for example Banking & financial centers, educational institutions);
  • Mobility & Transportation (for example metro, railway and aviation infrastructure);
  • Manufacturing (for example FMCG industry)

Customer Benefits

Availability

System availability should be between 99.9% and 99.999 percent, according to the TIER standard: downtime is not an option. This degree of availability can be attained by using high-quality Riello UPS uninterruptible power supplies in a well-designed system. In order to provide the requisite flexibility, the UPS must be adaptable, compact, and parallelable; it must be able to respond to all sorts of loads, both inductive and capacitive, and integrate with the other components in the system (e.g. electrical generators).

Energy consumption

Energy conservation has become a necessity for all businesses as well as a concern for the environment. As a result, it’s critical to select a UPS provider that offers green solutions that combine maximum performance with maximum energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact. The Eco-Energy Levels assist in determining which Riello UPS products are the most energy-efficient.

Physical Footprint

It’s crucial to optimize the amount of space available in data centers for very high real estate rates. Virtualizing servers is beneficial, but choosing UPS with tiny footprints to save space is also beneficial. The optimum dimensions are found in the Multi Sentry UPSSentryum UPS (Compact, Active, Xtend, autonomy and dimensions flexibility), Multi-Power UPS (MPW and MPX, modular solutions), NextEnergy UPS (transformer-less solution), and Master HE UPS ranges.
